Gary Bluestein began his legal career as an attorney through the U.S. Treasury Department's Honors program and served as counsel to the Internal Revenue Service and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney through the Justice Department. In these capacities, Gary provided training and advice to IRS personnel, and represented the Federal Government in the U.S. Tax Court and U.S. Bankruptcy Court. As an attorney for the Government, Gary received numerous Special Act merit awards and commendations for outstanding legal work. He also served on national task forces relating to policy and procedures implemented by the Internal Revenue Service.
Gary entered the private sector and formed the partnership, Bluestein & Muhlbauer, P.C., specializing in tax controversy and estate planning.
Gary is currently an adjunct faculty member at the University at Buffalo, School of Law and has taught the Masters Taxation Program at Canisius College. He is a frequent lecturer in the areas of tax practice and bankruptcy and taxation, speaking for the Erie County and Monroe County Bar Associations, the New York State Society of Enrolled Agents, the Women's Society of CPA's, and numerous other professional groups and government sponsored programs. He also has authored articles relating to the areas of tax practice and bankruptcy.
